There is free parking in the adjacent garage. The building entrance is on Baltimore–Annapolis Blvd. Please note\, when entering\, the building is secure\, so there will be someone present to let you in. DESCRIPTION:“Ninja Events and the Struggle to\nHelp Marginal Communities Recover”\n  \nWhen:  March 13-14\, Noon to Noon \nWhere:  Princess Royale Resort\, 9100 Coastal Highway\, Ocean City\, MD 21842 \nThe National Academies of Science\, Engineering and Medicine reports that\, “As Earth’s climate has warmed\, a new pattern of more frequent and more intense weather events has unfolded around the world.” A study by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, Coastal Resilience Center\, said in their executive summary\, “Recent work shows that continual and repeated disruption caused by natural hazards disproportionately harms marginalized communities.” \nDelaware and Maryland VOAD have experienced these effects in our states through an increased number of “ninja disaster events” (intense micro-bursts of rain\, wind and/or flooding) concentrated in a small geographic area with a disproportionate impact on communities of color\, those at the margins and those living below the poverty level. \nThis year’s Annual Conference will explore: the science and data behind this phenomenon; strategies for engaging funding sources in new ways; and envision ways to develop mitigation efforts to minimize the impact of these storms and improve the quality of life within these affected communities. \nTo register for the conference you must do two things: \n1) Click here. SUMMARY:2021 National VOAD Virtual Conference
DESCRIPTION:The National VOAD Conference (May 18-20) is the pinnacle event annually for the VOAD Movement. This event provides a forum for State/Territory VOADs to communicate and collaborate with other VOADs\, as well as national disaster response non-profits\, government agencies\, and partners from the business community. The National VOAD Conference is held annually in the Spring\, normally at rotating locations across the U.S.\, where the voluntary sector gathers to hear from engaging keynote speakers\, attend workshops on a variety of topics\, and participate in numerous networking opportunities that strengthen the capacity and capabilities of State/Territory VOADs. DESCRIPTION:Member Organizations are asked to make nominations for election of Board Members (Chairperson\, Vice-Chairperson\, Secretary\, Treasurer and Communications Coordinator) to the Nominating Committee by May 14.  According to our by-laws they must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting (June 14).  Burton Goldstein\, Maryland VOAD Board representative to the Nominations Committee\, has been appointed chair of the committee.
