MD VOAD Supports Afghan Evacuees thru DART

Maryland Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is providing opportunities for the public to respond and support Afghan evacuees being resettled in Maryland by addressing specific donation requests for individuals and families.

This work is a partnership with Maryland VOAD and the three leading resettlement agencies in the state: International Rescue Committee (IRC), Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC), and Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA). Each of these agencies anticipate the reception of thousands of evacuees to resettle in multiple states and have a list of specific in-kind donations that are needed.

Maryland VOAD will be providing donations management for this effort through their DART online platform to connect Maryland businesses, groups and individuals with specific items to donate as well as four locations to collect the donations across the state. The website provides a list of hundreds of in-kind donations requests that have been identified as needs for individuals and families as they resettle in the state, such as various home goods, winter clothing, baby items, and computer equipment.

In-Kind Donations can be made through our DART online platform here:  Once a donation item is claimed by a donor, it can either be shipped or dropped off at one of the collection sites located in Cambridge, Ellicott City, Hagerstown, or Silver Spring.

Monetary donations are also accepted to support the program. Electronic funds can be sent via Paypal HERE by choosing the dropdown selection for Afghan Evacuees Support. Checks should be made payable to Maryland VOAD, c/o Bruce Morgenstern, Treasurer, 1911 Hunt Meadow Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403 with a donation designation identified.
